Calculate Your IIT Rank
Aggregate ModelJEE Advanced Marks vs. Rank Trends
Unlike JEE Main, where percentiles are calculated shift-wise, JEE Advanced is evaluated on absolute score totals. Since paper difficulty varies significantly each year, the marks required to clear cutoffs and secure top ranks fluctuate.
1. Cumulative Score Thresholds
To be included in the Common Rank List (CRL), candidates must satisfy both aggregate score requirements (typically around 8-10% of total marks for General) and individual subject cutoffs in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (typically 4-5% of subject totals).
2. IIT Preparatory Courses
For vacant reserved category seats (SC, ST, PwD), IITs conduct preparatory courses. Candidates who do not meet the direct qualification cutoffs but clear relaxed bounds are eligible for a 1-year preparatory training program at designated IITs, after which they are admitted directly into their undergraduate course.

How is JEE Advanced Rank Calculated?
Unlike JEE Main, which normalizes scores using equi-percentile mathematical curves, JEE Advanced rankings are determined by raw aggregate marks scored across Paper 1 and Paper 2.
1. Aggregate Score and Subject-Wise Cutoffs
To qualify for rank allocation, a candidate must satisfy two conditions simultaneously:
- Subject-wise Cutoff: You must score a minimum percentage of marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics individually. This is usually around 4% to 5% of the total marks in each subject.
- Aggregate Cutoff: You must clear a minimum aggregate marks percentage across both papers combined (typically around 8% to 10% for the OPEN category, and lower for OBC, SC, ST, EWS).

20% Female Supernumerary Quota Mechanics
JoSAA Gender DiversityIn accordance with Ministry of Education directives, all 23 IITs create Female Supernumerary Seats to ensure at least 20% female representation in every academic program:
- Zero Seat Reduction: Supernumerary seats are created *over and above* the sanctioned gender-neutral seats without reducing seats for male candidates.
- Relaxed Closing Ranks: Female-only closing ranks in popular branches like CSE and ECE frequently close 1,500 to 3,500 ranks lower than gender-neutral cutoffs, significantly boosting admission odds.
- Dual Allocation: Female candidates are first considered for gender-neutral seats based on merit; if unallocated, they are automatically considered for female-only supernumerary seats.
