JEE Main College Predictor 2027
Discover which NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs you qualify for based on your percentile-derived All India Rank or Category Rank.
Admission Parameters
JoSAA VerifiedHome State (HS) vs. Other State (OS) Quotas
National Institutes of Technology (NITs) allocate 50% of their total seats under the Home State Quota. The remaining 50% are filled via the Other State Quota.
Home State Quota Eligibility Rule
Your Home State is determined by the location of the school where you completed your Class 12 (or equivalent) board examination. It has nothing to do with your place of birth or permanent residence. For example, if you reside in Delhi but completed Class 12 in Uttar Pradesh, your official Home State for JoSAA is Uttar Pradesh.
Impact on Closing Cutoff Ranks
In most states (with exceptions like Delhi or Goa where competition is fierce), the closing ranks for the Home State Quota are significantly more relaxed than the Other State Quota. Selecting your Home State inside our predictor reveals these exclusive seats.
JoSAA vs. CSAB Counselling Mechanics
Admissions to public engineering institutes in India happen in two successive phases: JoSAA rounds and CSAB special rounds.
JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority)
JoSAA conducts the first 5-6 rounds of counselling for all 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, and 30+ GFTIs. Every student registers once and locks their preference list. Category seats and gender-neutral/female-only supernumerary seats are allocated strictly by merit in successive rounds.
CSAB Special Rounds
After JoSAA rounds conclude, any seat vacant in NITs, IIITs, or GFTIs due to withdrawals or empty allocations are transferred to the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB). CSAB conducts 2 Special Rounds. Note: **IIT seats are NOT part of CSAB rounds.**
JoSAA Seat Acceptance: Float vs. Freeze vs. Slide
Crucial guidelines to protect your allocated seat while remaining eligible for better branch upgrades.
Freeze (Accept & Exit)
ConfirmedChoose Freeze if you are 100% satisfied with your allocated college and branch. You accept the seat, pay the Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF), and will NOT participate in subsequent rounds for any upgrades.
Float (Upgrade Anywhere)
RecommendedChoose Float if you accept the current allocated seat as a backup, but wish to be considered for higher preference choices in ANY institute in subsequent rounds.
Slide (Same College Upgrade)
Internal UpgradeChoose Slide if you love the allocated institute (e.g. NIT Trichy) and want to be considered for higher academic programs ONLY within the same institute.
Engineering Institutes: NIT vs. IIIT vs. GFTI Matrix
Understand key differences in placements, curricula, fees, and campus lifestyle.

Counselling & Choice Filling Strategy
Maximize your seat allocation chances across NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.
1. Ambitious (Top 25%): Preferred CSE/ECE in Top NITs slightly above your rank.
2. Target (Middle 50%): Highly probable branches based on predictor.
3. Safe (Bottom 25%): Guaranteed backups to prevent getting zero allotments.
